Gamescom is back in full force. Like many other postponed events, Gamescom is making its 2022 post-pandemic debut, leading us to the next big event on everyone’s gaming calendar.

Launching next week, Gamescom 2022 is returning bigger and better, but this time as a hybrid event. Expect a blend of online and in-person segmentsfor five consecutive days. A broad online network will be available for anyone who wants to tune in through Gamescom’s online streaming platform. The live event will take place in Cologne, Germany, where the event’s held annually.

Gamescom Gaming Convention Explained

Anyone involved in the gaming industry knows that Gamescom is the world’s largest gaming event, and the event takes place every year. The last time Gamescom held its event was in 2019, and the show saw more than 373,000 attendees and hosted hundreds of exhibitors showcasing their latest products. Gaming, esports, new technology, and metaverse drops, you will see anything and everything revolving around gaming. 

As usual, Gamescom will be holding their event in Cologne, Germany, with gaming fanatics from all walks of life gathering from all over the world to experience the latest games and tech before they drop. This consists of engaging in several community activities such as cosplay contests and the most recent popular trend, esports tournaments. The event also fully opens up the opportunity for the gaming industry’s experiential marketers, event managers, retail, trade, and media reps to gather for this one eventful weekend. Therefore, notable brands are often involved in sharing the latest gaming news, release dates, and trailer drops for their fan’s favorite games.

GamesCom 2022 Schedule, Dates, and Location

Europe is gearing up for its version of the U.S.’s E3, and every year Gamescom hosts its event at the Koelnmesse exhibition center in Cologne, Germany. Gamescom organizers are on a mission to bounce back after hosting an all-digital event at Gamescom 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

This year, the convention is back in full effect, as the event plans to host an all-around digital and in-person experience in Cologne over five long days from August 24 to August 28, 2022. These are the main event dates. However, Gamescom is planning on holding a few important pre-events that attendees will not want to miss out on. 

Here is a schedule for all the dates and activities that Gamescom 2022 will be holding from August 22 to August 26, 2022: 

August 22 – August 23: Devcom

August 23: Opening Night Live (more on this below)

August 24: Gamescom Entertainment Area (open for trade and media)

August 25: August 28: Gamescom Entertainment Area (public)

August 24: August 26: Gamescom Business Area

August 25: Gamescom Congress

August 25: August 28: Gamescom Event Arena

August 26: August 28: Gamescom City Festival

Gamescom 2022, Brand Experiences, Immersive Booths, and Brand Activations

Each event date will consist of many unforgettable experiences attendees must experience. There is even a mini-conference that will be held right before opening night that includes a series of events focused on game development, publishing, and networking. Devcom will take place between August 22 to August 23, 2022. Therefore, attendees have the opportunity to extend their visit to experience the development world of gaming.

As the event begins, there are a handful of activities for fans to participate in and increase their engagement. Over the next five days, panels like Gamescom Business Area for professionals only focus on industry networking. Gamescom Congress is a conference covering a broad range of topics on the potential of games in society and the economy.

The Entertainment Area, meanwhile, is where attendees can play an array of new games. At the same time, the Entertainment Event Arena will be occupied by AMD, Funcom, and ESL Gaming, who will be hosting events throughout Gamescom 2022. 

A niche event will be held as the Future Games Show will return for its special Gamescom edition, with about 50 games from publishers, including Team 17 and 505 Games, set to make an appearance at GameRadar’s showcase. The Future Games Show takes place on August 24 at 11am PDT / 2pm EDT / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST (or August 25 at 4am AEST). There will be many more live-streaming events that attendees can participate in from home.

Brands Predicted To Attend GamesCom 2022

The biggest brands have already begun to confirm and also deny their participation in Gamescom, painting a perfect picture for fans of whom we will see and what they will bring to the table. 

Firstly, Microsoft has already approved that they will be in attendance, and the tech giant shared some information about what we can expect to see from them at the show. Microsoft said in a press release, “We’re excited to confirm that Xbox will be back on the show floor at Gamescom 2022 in Cologne, Germany. Fans in Europe and around the world can expect updates on some announced games coming to Xbox in the next 12 months.”

Another massive name that announced they would be attending Gamescom is Ubisoft, although they haven’t shared what they plan to showcase. With Ubisoft committing to other gaming events later this year and Skull & Bones re-released, fans are hopeful to see this game appear

Warner Bros, Sega, Xbox, 505 Games, Koch Media, 2K Games, and Bandai Namco are among the other big names that have confirmed they’ll be attending Gamescom 2022.

Unfortunately, there are some big names that have made the no show list. Sony and Nintendo have both confirmed that they will not be in attendance. Activision Blizzard, EA, and Take-Two Interactive have confirmed that they will also not be attending this year.
